Meet The Sitters
All of our sitters are at least, 18 years of age or older.
At a minimum each holds a high school diploma or G.E.D.
and has at least 2 years of positive, relevant experience working
with or caring for children. We conduct a background check on
every sitter we refer. These sitters are among our current referees:

Hi, I'm Jessi! I am a
junior at the University of Kansas Medical Center
in the Nursing program. I am currently working part time in the
Mother/Baby unit at a hospital and hope to work in women's services when I graduate. I
started babysitting with my older brother around the age of 9. I enjoyed
it so much, I have been babysitting and working as a
nanny from then on, forming a lot of special relationships with many
different families and their kids. I have cared for all ages of kids
and even children with special needs. I think it is extremely
important, on my part, to involve your kids in all the activities they
find fulfilling, and maybe even introduce them to new things. I am
living in Kansas City now, and with my busy schedule I find myself
mostly babysitting for people here, but I am open to coming back to
Lawrence and babysitting families there too! I am so excited to meet
you and your family! |
 |
Hi! I'm Libby. I
just recently graduated from KU with a degree in Psychology
and minor in Communication Studies. I began babysitting
for neighbors back home in Minnesota at 12 years old and
have deeply enjoyed taking care of and being around kids
since then. For awhile I tutored at "Right after
School" tutoring program for children in grades 2 through
4, working on reading and listening skills. When I
was not volunteering I had a number of other caretaking jobs,
from infants to young adolescents. After coming to
college it was difficult to find families that were looking
for sitters, but I am glad to have become a part of Sunflower
Sitters. I enjoy many different activities when working with
children such as arts and crafts, being outdoors, cooking
and playing games. Currently, I live in Kansas City, MO and
work for Hallmark. Although I will mostly be available
for jobs within the Kansas City area, I sometimes find myself
back in Lawrence and occasionally will be open to jobs there
as well. I look forward to meeting your family! |

Hi my name is April. I
am a senior at the University of Kansas, and
I am majoring in social work. I absolutely love spending
time with children. I have been employed with the Boys
and Girls Club of Lawrence for 3 years and in addition coach
volleyball and basketball for the children there. I am
also a special education para at Deerfield Elementary and have
been trained to work with special needs children. I have
had many wonderful experiences with all the children I work
with! I love Kansas basketball and any sports activity. I
also enjoy reading, art projects, and movies. I am glad
to be involved with Sunflower Sitters and look forward to meeting
your family soon! |
 |
Hi, my name is Brittany. I'm
currently a 4th year student at the University of Kansas, and
I'm
majoring in Applied Behavior Science with a concentration in
Community Health and Development. I started teaching
swimming lessons when I was twelve years old, and then was
a lifeguard for five years. I also babysat for many different
families in my home town. I've been working at
Boys and Girls Club in Lawrence for one year now, it's
such a fun and rewarding job! I adore children and have
had many good experiences with them! I've been
involved in tennis, swimming, basketball, volleyball and golf--so
I love playing sports! I also enjoy outdoors, crafts
and watching a good movie. I'm excited to be apart
of Sunflower Sitters, and I can't wait to meet your family! |
 |
Hi, I'm Carly! I
am currently a senior at the University of Kansas, double-majoring
in Political Science and Spanish. I have been around
children all my life and love babysitting. I have had
experience with kids of all ages and special needs children. I
love doing all kinds of activities--especially ceramics. I
plan on being in Lawrence indefinitely and would love to meet
you and your kids. |

Hi! My name is Haily and I am a
junior at the University of Kansas majoring in Community Health.
From the time I was born to the present I have been involved
with my mom's in-home daycare. I have always taken the motherly
role with my three siblings and the daycare children. Caring
for, playing with and nurturing children is what comes natural
for me. I also enjoy spending time outdoors, scrapbooking,
cooking and attending KU sporting events. I am excited to be
a Sunflower Sitter and look forward to meeting you and your
family soon! |
 |
Hi, I'm Brittany! I am a sophmore
at the University of Kansas. I am majoring in Sports Science/Pre-Physical
Therapy. I started babysitting when I was 12 years old, and
when I was 15 years old I became a lifeguard. I have
been lifeguarding for 5 years now. One of the main reasons
why I love lifeguarding is because I always get to be
around kids! I absolutely love working with children!
I also love animals and sports! In my spare time I volunteer
at the Lawrence Humane Society. I LOVE the outdoors and
being active, but I also enjoy doing arts and crafts or
watching movies. I am very excited to be involved with the
Sunflower Sitters and I am looking forward to meeting your
family soon! |

Hi guys, I am Erica. I
am a senior at the University of Kansas, majoring in elementary
education. I will soon be an elementary teacher and
I can't wait!!! I am currently doing my field placement
at Hillcrest Elementary and Eudora West; both in 5th grade
classrooms. I have been babysitting since middle school. Recently,
I have been a nanny to a family for several years and this
past summer I was a nanny down in Orange Beach, Alabama. Other
than my passion for children I enjoy cooking, the outdoors,
traveling, and reading (especially children's books). I
look forward to meeting you and your children soon! |
 |
Hello! I'm Eva, I'm from
Coral Springs, Florida, and I am a senior at the University
of Kansas. I am an elementary education major, so I
currently spend half my time on campus, and half my time
at various elementary schools in Lawrence and Eudora. I
love the time when I am in the elementary classrooms, and
I adore my students (well, most of them anyway!) Babysitting
is naturally another interest of mine since it provides me
with such great experiences with so many different children. I
took a babysitting course to become a certified sitter when
I was twelve and have been doing it ever since. When
not going to school or working, I enjoy spending time with
friends, cooking delicious dinners, reading, running, and
relaxing (which I sadly don't get to do that often!) I'm
excited to be a part of Sunflower Sitters and I am looking
forward to meeting you and your families soon! |
 |
Hi, I'm Lindsey! I am
a sophomore at the University of Kansas and am majoring in
Business Leadership and Management. I'm from Iowa and
previous to Sunflower Sitters knew no families that were
in need of babysitters, which is the only job I was
interested in! I have been babysitting since I was
in 6th grade and have experience with all ages of children. I
have been a nanny for the past 3 years for the very first
family I babysat for back in 6th grade and have gained
so much experience from them. I loved taking them to
their activities and watching them grow up. I love
helping children with their homework or reading, cooking
for them, and then of course the fun activities! I look forward
to meeting you and your family! |
 |
Hi, I'm Melissa. I'm
a senior at the University of Kansas this year. I'm
majoring in Women's Studies and planning on getting
my masters in Social Work. My experiences in childcare
began when I was nine and my youngest sister was born; I
adopted the role of mother more than I did big sister. My
babysitting became an official job when I was thirteen, and
I have had the privilege of meeting a lot of great families
and becoming part of some very special kid's lives. There
is nothing more exciting for me than taking care of your
kids and making sure that their experience with me as their
sitter is fun and memorable. I love arts and crafts,
playing outside, board games, and reading books. I'm
very excited to have the opportunity to meet you and your
kids! |
 |
Hi, I'm Kylie! I am currently
a freshmen at the University of Kansas, and I am majoring in
business. I have grown up around younger children because
my mom runs a daycare in our home. I have taken after
my mom and love taking care of and being around children. In
my spare time I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping,
take pictures and attend KU sporting events. I am very
excited to be with Sunflower Sitters and look forward to meeting
you and your family! |
 |
Hello! My name is Melissa.
I am a senior at KU and will be graduating in May with a degree
in Fine Arts, concentrating on Theatre Design and Photography.
I have consistently been around children of all ages since
I was 10, due mainly to the fact that my family from St.Louis
does foster care. This has given me a huge advantage as far
knowing how to care for children, especially infants. In my
free time I do anything I can to be outside in the sun-- running,
biking, swimming or just reading in the sun.
I look forward to meeting some of you and your children! |

Aloha! I am Laura. I am
a junior attending the University of Kansas. I am originally
from Colorado, and while I miss it terribly I love Lawrence.
I am double majoring in English: Creative Writing and Journalism:
Magazine Creation, and also tentatively minoring in African
Studies. I began babysitting at the age of 11 for family friends
and have furthered that experience sitting regularly for some
families and kids counseling at a guest ranch in the summer.
I think children are vital to happiness and maintaining perspective
in this world. Kids provide, for me, a world of creation, laughter,
imagination, and fun. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know children
and watching them learn who they want to be. Also getting to
know the family is important and pleasurable for me. I love
being outside, anything to do with music, including playing
the piano and singing, reading, crafts, sports and laughing.
I plan on being in Lawrence during school sessions, but must
return to the Colorado air in the summers. I hope so much to
get to know you and yours! |

Hi, I’m Jessica! I am a junior
at the University of Kansas in the Communication Studies program.
I am also a business minor. I have a large family so therefore
have been surrounded by young children throughout my life.
I was a nanny for three young boys for many years now, so I
have a lot of experience. Working with children brings joy
into my life. I also enjoy KU sports and being outdoors. I
look forward to meeting your family and getting to know your
children! |
 |
Hi! My name is Meghan and I am
a sophomore at the University of Kansas. I am from Minneapolis,
and am majoring in Advertising and French. I began babysitting
for families in my early teens, and have continued to stay
in touch with those families. I worked as a nanny for the past
three summers and had great times! Sunflower Sitters is great
for me because being from out of state, I don't know many families
looking for a babysitter. When working with children, I love
doing arts and crafts, playing games, playing sports and being
outside. I am a very responsible, honest and fun person with
a place in my heart for kids. I look forward to meeting you
your families! |
 |
Hi, I'm Kelly!
I am a sophomore at the University of Kansas studying Journalism
and Political Science. I am from Iowa and have been babysitting
for as long as I can remember. Last summer I was a nanny for
a family with two children, it was by far the best job experience
I have ever had. I look forward to seeing them every time I
go home. I love children of all ages, and doing all kinds of
activities. I like to make the babysitting experience fun and
helpful for your children, whether it be playing games or helping
with homework. I look forward to meeting you and your family! |
 |
Hi! I'm Jennifer, I'm 21 years
old and I'm from Naperville, Illinois, a suburb of
Chicago. I am a senior at KU majoring in Education with a focus
in Language
Arts and Reading. I've previously worked at 2 different summer
camps. In one
day camp I worked with kids 5-7 years old and in another over-night
camp the kids
were 10-11 years old. I also have some experience working with
babies and
toddlers. Basically, I love kids of all ages! I was very involved
with theatre while growing up so I have a strong dramatic background
that compliments my energetic personality. I'm really excited
about working with Sunflower Sitters and look forward to meeting
you and your kids! |

Hi! My name is Meg. I am from Omaha,
Nebraska. I have two older siblings, making me the baby. I
am a sophomore at the University of Kansas. I am majoring in
Business Marketing with concentrations in International Business
and Spanish. I am planning on studying abroad next year and
hope to travel a lot after college. I began babysitting at
a young age and now I am a full-time nanny every summer. I
also babysit a fun loving 10 year old boy during the week.
I love children and have learned so much from all of my past
and present experiences. I have been involved in swimming and
golf and love to be outside. I am very adventurous and outgoing.
I am so excited to apart of the Sunflower Sitters’ team
and cannot wait to meet your family! |
 |
Hi, my name is Samantha and I'm
a sophomore at the University of Kansas and a nursing major.
From the time I turned 16 and was able to drive I started babysitting.
I have cared for many different families and on many different
occasions. During the past summers I have been a nanny and
been with the children the entire summer. I have also babysat
for a family with four girls and have stayed overnight with
them. I'm very athletic, outgoing, responsible, flexible, and
very adaptable to all situations. I would love to meet you
and your family. Look forward to meeting you! |
 |
Hi, I'm Kaylee. I have lots of
experience working with kids of all ages, including babysitting,
tutoring, and teaching (I'm a substitute teacher in Lawrence...keep
an eye out for me!). I have a degree in English from KU (go
Jayhawks!), and soon I'll be starting my Masters program at
UMKC to become certified to teach French. I'm a total bookworm.
Some of my favorite authors are Roald Dahl, L. M. Montgomery,
and Jeffrey Eugenides. I also like anime, video games, and
playing outside. I'm happy doing pretty much anything, whether
it be helping with homework, playing sports, or just goofing
around. If you want to know anything else, just ask! See you
soon! |

Hi, my name is Lauren and I am from Ozark, Missouri. I am a sophomore at KU and I
am majoring in Political Science. I began babysitting for the
kids next door to me when I was ten years old and have been
working with kids as often as possible ever since. Throughout
junior high and high school I babysat for many families in
Ozark but once I moved to Lawrence, where I knew no one, I
realized how much I missed babysitting and being around kids.
I began volunteering through the Adopt-a-School program last
fall where I work at Hillcrest Elementary School twice a week.
I am looking forward to begin babysitting for families here
in Lawrence and getting to spend more time with kids. I can't
wait to meet you and your family! |

Hello, my name is Amanda!
I am currently a senior at the University of Kansas, and will
be
graduating in spring of 2009. I am originally from Overland
Park, KS, and I have two younger brothers. The first is 19
and a freshman here at the university; we both love the fact
that we are so close and get to spend time together. The second
is 11 and is about to head into 6th grade. I was 10 when he
was born so you could say that I have been babysitting almost
my entire life. My Mom used to call me her in home baby sitter,
and when I turned 16 her person chauffer. I am currently a
manager for the Kansas Women’s Basketball team and love
being involved with sports. I am currently living in Lawrence,
and although I find it hard to work during the basketball season,
I am happy to meet families during the off season. During my
free time I love being outdoors, going to the pool, hanging
out, and really just being a big kid. |

Hi, I’m Kyle.
I am a graduate of the University of Kansas with my Bachelor’s
degree in Human Development and Family Life with an emphasis
in Child
Care and Development. This past school year I worked for the
Lawrence School District and am also a graduate student at
Rockhurst University where I will earn a Master’s degree
in Education. I have always enjoyed working with children.
Growing up I babysat for different families in the neighborhood
and knew I wanted to work with children as a career. I have
many years of experience working with children of all ages
and with special needs. Working with Sunflower Sitters allows
me to gain more experience while also being able to focus on
school. I look forward to meeting you and your children! |

Hi! I'm Stephanie. I am from Chicago,
Illinois, and I am currently a senior at the University of
Kansas. I have really enjoyed living in Lawrence for the past
four years and have had wonderful experiences here. I began
child care at the age of 12 years old and have been working
with children ever since. I started babysitting for a child
of a close family friend and spent many years watching him
grow into a young man. For two summers I worked as a camp counselor
for my childhood day camp, Apachi Day Camp. I then transferred
to Apachi Village (a day camp for younger children) for two
more summers. I had some of the best experiences with children
there. I enjoy all kinds of activities such as sports, arts & crafts,
dancing, reading, being outdoors and playing games. I am very
excited to be a part of Sunflower Sitters, and I look forward
to meeting your families! |

Hello! I am Mery. I am a Senior
at KU majoring in Psychology and Sociology. I am from the Lawrence
area so I am very familiar with what this city has to offer.
Throughout the years, I have been a part of many children’s
lives through babysitting, the Big Brothers Big Sisters program,
and The Boys and Girls Club. You may have seen me when I worked
at the South Park Wading Pool. I enjoy various activities,
especially sports and anything outdoors. School is very important
to me, so I will make it a priority to help children with their
schoolwork if they need guidance. I look forward to meeting
your family and having a great time with your child/children. |
